On the upper floor of our house is the Museu de Sa Rondaia.
Rondalles are traditional folk tales of unknown origin passed down orally through generations. In 1880, Mossèn Antoni Maria Alcover (En Jordi des Racó) traveled across Mallorca to collect more than 200 of these stories, each reflecting different regions of the island.
Pere Pujol, a self-taught sculptor, gave form and “life” to many of the characters from these tales.
Through the friendship between the Sancho family and Pere Pujol, the idea arose to create a permanent exhibition of these works. After his passing, an agreement with his descendants made it possible to display the most emblematic figures of Sa Rondaia in our home.
For us, this museum is a journey back to childhood—when our grandparents told us these stories by the fireplace on winter nights. Our hope is that these figures, created with limited resources but great imagination, inspire both children and adults to continue reading rondalles for many years to come.
